It’s time to grow up ↑

A new way to look at growing food.

We are a modern indoor farm located just outside Halifax. We grow food all year and create the perfect conditions for flavour-packed leafy greens, mushrooms and herbs using sophisticated equipment to increase oxygen to the roots of our plants, powerful lights to provide the energy needed for our plants to grow and a specialized irrigation system to provide the exact amount of nutrients.

We are doing our part to reduce “food miles” in the food supply chain and offering a fresh local alternative throughout the year by delivering fresh produce within 25 kilometres of where it’s grown and harvested.

Why do we grow vertically?

We have great respect for traditional farming practices. After all, those practices have kept us fed for hundreds of years. But as populations grow and cities become denser, we face an increased need to import our food. Demand for food supply now outweighs what local farmers can grow on available working land.

Shipping food by air, land, or sea leaves a detrimental carbon footprint for every kilometre it travels. With negative climate change effects directly related to carbon emissions, finding innovative ways to produce food locally is imperative. This is where vertical farming comes in.

Using the height of our controlled environment facility, we can grow the plants vertically to maximize the production space for our greens, mushrooms, and herbs. Our farm helps strengthen Halifax Regional Municipality's food supply chain while vastly decreasing the transportation emissions created during the transportation of products over long distances.

Not only are we reducing how far produce needs to travel, but we are growing using sustainable and eco-friendly practices. We only use the amount of water the plant needs, enrich the water with oxygen and extend the lighting period to maximize plant growth. All of this allows us to harvest crops multiple times a year.
